Plan a pilot

The pilot Proposed plan

Your first 90 days.

We suggest testing the model on one feeder, sized with you after a radio survey and a capacity check. The weeks start once the pilot agreement, the meter approval route and the meters on site are in place.

Weeks 1–2

Discover

Mitar

  • Choose the feeder
  • Survey radio coverage
  • Set up agencies, tariffs and roles
  • Record your baseline: collection rate, banking delay, billed energy

Your team

  • Name a sponsor and owners
  • Share the regulator’s meter approval and import documents with us
  • Agree how sales data reach billing (Excel or CSV today)
Weeks 3–6

Deploy

Mitar

  • Install LoRaWAN gateways
  • Commission meters and link them to customers
  • Train agents and technicians

Your team

Weeks 7–10

Your team

  • Sell through your counters and retail providers
  • Handle customer feedback with us
Weeks 11–13

Review

Mitar

  • Review results against the agreed indicators
  • Present a summary built on the data of your own network
  • Prepare the scale-up plan and the commercial proposal

Your team

  • Decide: stop, extend or scale

Questions about the pilot

Do we have to replace what we have?

No. Start where you have no prepaid smart meter today: customers without a meter or billed by estimate, new connections, new feeders.

Mitar sends credit as an encrypted command to the LoRaWAN prepaid meters it supports, not as STS tokens, so it runs beside your existing STS and DLMS meters and does not connect to them. Sales data can be shared as Excel or CSV exports.

How will our customers pay?

Today at agency counters and through retail providers. Mobile money and card operators will be added market by market, through a payment layer that releases credit only after the provider’s signed confirmation. None is live yet.

What will regulators and auditors ask?

Every sale has a number and a receipt that can be checked, and actions are logged. Tariff decisions stay with you and your regulator; today Mitar applies flat per-kWh rates by customer segment. Meter approvals and the accounting of a service fee are confirmed with your regulator and your auditor.

Where does it run, and how is it protected?

Where it runs is agreed with each utility. Today: signed sessions, role and agency checks on the server, encrypted connections to the radio network, and web sessions that sign out when idle. Independent security testing and certification are not yet in place.

Start with one feeder.

Tell us about your network and we will propose a pilot.
